La Iglesia de San Pedro se encuentra enmarcada en la falda del Castillo de Lorca, en la parte occidental. La documentación nos data ya su existencia en el siglo XV, aunque como es natural con el paso de los siglos las remodelaciones que se han ido efectuando se han ido adaptando a la tipología del momento. La iglesia se ajustaba en su planta a una nave única con capillas adosadas en los laterales, poseía una única puerta y junto a ella se alzaba la torre. Los daños que se ocasionaron en la Iglesia en 1936 fueron tan grandes que casi desapareció en su totalidad, quedando únicamente su torre, partes de la nave y la puerta de acceso.
The Church of San Pedro is located on the western side of Lorca’s Castle. It was built in the 15th century but, over the centuries, it has been refurbished depending on the typology of every moment. The church had a single nave with many side chapels, it had just one door and the tower was erected next to it. In 1936, the church was so damaged that it almost disappeared; the tower, some parts of the nave and the access door were the only elements that remained standing.
EFECTOS DE LOS SEÍSMOS
La situación de la Iglesia de San Pedro anterior al terremoto de mayo de 2011, ya era bastante precaria, así, el sismo, solo vino a agravar más aún si cabe la situación. La puerta de acceso, y la torre se encontraban agrietadas prácticamente en su totalidad. La bóveda se derruyó parcialmente, cayendo sus cascotes en el interior de la Iglesia. Se manifestaron también numerosas y grandes grietas y fisuras en las piedras de la puerta de entrada y en prácticamente toda la torre.
The condition of the Church of San Pedro before the earthquake of May 2011 was quite precarious, so the seism aggravated even more the situation. The access door and the tower were completely cracked; the dome was partially destroyed and the debris fell inside the church. The stones near the door were also cracked.
ACTUACIONES REALIZADAS
En un primer momento como medida de emergencia se decidió poner refuerzos metálicos en la torre y se apuntalaron y aseguraron las restantes zonas para evitar el riesgo de derrumbe parcial. Lo más importante era conservar las partes que quedaban del edificio original. Así, los esfuerzos fueron encaminados una vez preservada esta parte a reconstruir el resto del edificio manteniendo las líneas y los espacios, pero usando materiales coetáneos.
First, as en emergency measure, the tower was reinforced with metal pieces and all the other areas of the church were braced and secured to avoid the risk of collapse. The most important thing was to preserve the remaining parts of the original building and, after that, the rest of the building was rebuilt keeping the design and the original spaces, but using coetaneous materials.
