El espectacular edificio donde se emplaza el Museo Arqueológico de Lorca data de principios de siglo XVII, una antigua residencia perteneciente a la Casa de los Salazar – Rosso. Su fachada cuenta con una rica portada realizada en piedra, donde se encuentra el blasón de la familia flanqueado por dos figuras femeninas con el torso desnudo, todo ello labrado en piedra caliza. La estructura interna del edificio se remodeló para adecuarlo a su nueva función de museo, el cual se fundó en Marzo de 1992.
The spectacular building that houses the Archaeological Museum of Lorca dates from the early 17th century and it is a former residence belonging to La Casa de los Salazar-Rosso. Its facade has a rich entrance made of stone, where it is placed the coat of arms of the family flanked by two shirtless female figures, all carved in limestone. The internal structure of the building was redesigned to suit its new role as a museum, which was founded in March, 1992.
EFECTOS DE LOS SEÍSMOS
Los daños ocasionados por el terremoto de mayo de 2011 lamentablemente fueron cuantiosos, y afectaron no solo al edificio sino también a la colección museográfica. Los muros quedaron agrietados al igual que la fachada. Se dieron caídas y desprendimientos de revestimientos, y la puerta principal quedó desgajada.
La pérdida de piezas del tejado así como las fisuras que se formaron han dado lugar a goteras en los techos.
La colección permanente del Museo también se vio afectada, con la rotura de vitrinas contenedoras y numerosas piezas.
The damages caused by the earthquake in May 2011 were, unfortunately, numerous and they affected not only the building but also to the museum collection. The walls were cracked as the facade. The facing of the walls fell and the front door was broken off. There are leaks due to the loss of some parts of the roof and to the cracks that appeared. The Museum’s permanent collection was also affected: the glass of many display cabinets and even many pieces were broken.
ACTUACIONES REALIZADAS
Las primeras intervenciones llevadas a cabo estuvieron destinadas a asegurar el edificio, apuntalando aquellas zonas que más riesgo presentaban para la colección del museo y las personas que tenían que transitarlo. La colección fue trasladada y aquellas piezas que sufrieron daños llevadas a restaurar, las reparación de vitrinas también fue esencial y necesaria.
Se aseguraron los pilares del edificio, y la junta estructural para darle solidez, del mismo modo se actuó en el forjado de las escaleras.
The first interventions carried out were focused on ensuring the building, bracing the areas that supposed a high risk for the museum’s collection and the people who had to go through it. The collection was moved, those pieces with damages were restored and the repairs on the display cabinets were also essential and necessary. The pillars of the building, the structural joint and the structure of the stairs were reinforced to make them stronger.
